Movie Reviews

Hi. I haven't been doing any proper posts for a very very long time. Feels like a decade.
I decided to do some reviews on recent movies that I've watched.
I know what you're thinking.. "O LEVEL STILL GOT TIME WATCH MOVIE?!"
Yep, I watched 4 movies recently, couldn't handle the temptation. Hehehe.
And I've been supper-ing a lot. Any takers? :)

Okay, first movie, Phua Chu Kang The Movie.

This movie is actually adapted from the series Phua Chu Kang. Here's some background.
The series revolves around the Phua family, most notably Phua Chu Kang (Gurmit Singh), a contractor who boasts that he is the "Best in Singapore, JB, and some say Batam" - this is despite the fact that he has only two men working for him and they are both inept and lazy. He is also noted for his famous cliché or catchphrase: "Don't play play" (pronounce as "pray pray" according to his articulation). There is also another famous catchphrase which is being used in his famous 2003 music video called "PCK Sar-vivor Rap", that is, "Use your brain!" (pronounced as "blain"). His personal clothing trademarks are his yellow pair of boots, curly hair, a giant mole, and long nails on his pinky fingers.

So.. About the movie.
Actually, when the trailer-ish thing came out.. I honestly didn't expect much from a local flim. I'm sorry okay.. I really don't.
But it actually surprised me. Firstly, I didn't expect the chosen cast (of course other than gurmit singh and his wife, irene ang). The cast did an incredible job of portraying the Phua Chu Kang identity. Okay, kinda hard to express. But they did a wonderful job in this movie. I was also surprised at the story line. I expected it all to be comedy, but it was actually heartwarming. The twist in the storyline (I won't say what it is la! Must ownself go catch the movie. Veli naize ah!) was at an extremely good timing. I was on the brink of tears and the next minute I was laughing. (Maybe the company I had for that movie also contributed to the fact that this movie was so enjoyable) But this time I can really say, Singapore got standard. HEHEHE.

There were criticisms about the Singlish included in the script. It is part of the "Phua Chu Kang culture" right? Without singlish.. It'll be so weird.. Heh.

This was a 7/10.

The next movie, Vampires Suck.

This movie is actually a spoof of the Twilight Series. Here's some background:
Twilight is a series of four vampire-based fantasy romance novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. It charts a period in the life of Isabella "Bella" Swan, a teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington, and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series is told primarily from Bella's point of view, with the epilogue of Eclipse and Part II of Breaking Dawn being told from the viewpoint of character Jacob Black, a werewolf.

This movie was one of the most anticipated movie for me. When the trailer came out, I thought it was a youtube spoof. Til the posters came out, I was excited for the movie. The trailer was really good! But............. When I watched it (I know it isn't out locally but i got my ways), i was quite............. Very disappointed. I'm sorry for those who were looking forward to watching it when it releases locally this thursday. It's like they put all the best parts (which weren't a lot) into the 2 minutes trailer. And everything that was supposed to be funny in the movie just paled in comparison. I couldn't even bring myself to laugh already. No doubt there were good parts. But... That was all it was. Just watch the trailer, you've got the jist of the movie already. Really... I'm really sorry to have got your hopes high then smash it like this. But this was a 3/10.

The third movie is Step Up 3 (3D).

I'm a big fan of dance movies. From grease (ok, that's quite musical-ish).. From dirty dancing to step up... And all that. I heard there's another one coming up called Street Dance? I might catch that if I've the money and time. Fyi, I used to breakdance and hip hopped a lot. I can do a bit of beatboxing. It creeped me out the first time I tried it. It still creeps me out. :/ Hmmm yup ok The movie........

I watched it with someone special and I watched it in 3D too. It was......... DAMN GOOD!! I was tapping my foot or fingers at almost all the dancing parts. The storyline was quite cliche though there was a slight twist to it. But overall, I wasn't disappointed at all! The 3D effects were quite good also, it wasn't just trees popping out at you and all that. The dancers were too. Definitely should catch it in 3D if you can afford it. :)

In my opinion, though this was good. In the whole series of Step Up movies.. I'd still think Step Up 2 was the best. And also, I was disappointed that they changed the two lead characters in the movie. The actors didn't disappoint me and their chemistry was clearly seen on the big screens but I just.. Preferred the previous ones. And also, I feel that this movie didn't depict the real scene in US very well, it was too glamourous and all that. But that's just my opinion I guess. Haha. I'd still give this a hard 9/10.

The final movie, Camp Rock 2.

I know, Disney. Right? I know. I totally get it. But I watched camp rock so when this came out I thought okay... Let's check it out. I heard one or two of the songs, the lyrics were not bad so I decided to watch it. I caught it though it's also not out locally yet. And what can I say? Disney don't disappoint. It's the same old preaching of happy endings that makes you wanna tear. The power pair of Joe Jonas & Demi Lovato killed the crowded the smooth vocals and electrifying chemistry. No doubt, this will be a movie that kids will end up smiling with and adults will applaud for their skills of manoeuvring the boundaries between romance and friendship. Every girl will end up feeling all loved up after this show and all the guys will end up feeling powered for some love songs? Yup. I think so.

I'd give it a 8.5/10. It's Disney.. What'd you expect. :)

So that's it folks. For those that has realised I've been kinda down. Don't worry, I'll get back up on my feet again. I hope this post was entertaining enough? Thanks!
